Should I just block Earthlink from creating accounts here? | 26 comments (26 topical, 0 editorial, 0 hidden)
Re: Where is this notice miskairal? (none / 0) (#13)
by Scott Lockwood on Sun Apr 16, 2006 at 05:05:27 PM PST

I think I made it pretty clear that I wasn't blaming the user. I think I also made it pretty clear that I'm placing 110% of the responsibility with Earthlink.

I'm all for helping new people get on, but I'm quite busy, working like 50+ hours a week, plus taking care of my own fish, and family.

Perhaps I should make the 'respond to' address something like 'help@guppylog.com' and then set that up as a redirect to a short group of people willing to help with such things.

Any one willing to volunteer? :-)

I'm not sure this is one of my most sensible things to do but yes, I stick my hand up as a volunteer. lomelindi might like to take this on as she's asking for work :)

*smiles* Sure, lemme at it. I've been away from this board long enough that my patience is nearly infinite.

So we need short volunteers? :) (none / 0) (#14)
by unclescott on Sun Apr 16, 2006 at 07:24:30 PM PST

But enough small talk. ;)

I'll help some if people have questions on where to post whatever. Be prepared for a predisposition to recommend diaries. My time is also limited, but not as much as it is for most of you.

In turn, would you Scott or Miskairal, find that section (which probably made sense before we began tweaking the instructions) that says don't post about guppies in the diaries and change or delete that?

Here it is in the 3rd paragraph of the "F.A.Q.
For Newbies!"

"Use it (the diary) for non guppy things or for short items."

That may be mostly why all those short guppy questions are submitted as logs! (And then we pounce on those folks for trying to follow those instructions and posting short guppy questions as logs.)

I remember reading that a couple of months ago and being mickle confused. Others have given testimony  to that too. It needs to be changed to something along the line of,

"Most one or two paragraph questions on guppies are best placed in the diaries."

"Diaries can also be used for observations upon other aspects of the aquarium hobby and non-guppy things."

Thanks!

Done!

"Diaries can also be used for observations upon other aspects of the aquarium hobby and non-guppy things."

I think what's there makes the same point
" Diary entries do not have to be guppy related and in fact do not even have to be fish related. There is no voting on this."

More importantly, that's not a hard and fast rule - that's a guideline, or a suggestion. It's mostly there to let people know that the diary section is kind of a free speech zone, where they can bitch about their college english professor if they want to - do what you want, it's your diary. It's not meant to be restrictive...

So it would have been a good place to tell everyone that last Saturday I turned 30 and sorry if it has made me a little grumpy lately?
