Re: They may just like it there, frolicking in (none / 0) (#2)

Well unclescott, I sat out there for as long as I could and  I observed the fishes' breathing and if they just stood still for the whole time. They breath like the other fish, not slow, but a bit fast. That's not a bad sign too is it? But, just to be safe I added an extra plant that I wasn't using [live.] Now, we all know males are supposed to be smaller than females. Here's the catch, Shadow, happens to be bigger than both females. Weird isn't it? I like to think him as 'unique'. But my females don't just sit in one spot all the time, and in occasions, while I was watching, they would go hang out with some of the other community fish [1 platy,1 gold barb, and 2 rose barbs.] If anything sounds really bad about what they were doing, PLEASE TELL ME. Thank you.
What? Were you expecting something funny?

Considering it's just the females hovering at the surface brings up the observation of pregnancy and fry delivery.
Do you by any chance know how old the females are? That could explain why the male is larger and why they are taking a while to drop fry. In my Beast tank I have 1 male who is huge. He's the size of a normal full grown female guppy. And his best buddy is also a pretty big boy. Anyway they are still dwarfed by a few of my females who are close to 2 1/2 inches long and quite big around.

Oh and, also in my experiance a female guppy will drop her first batch of fry aroune 5-6 months old. Regardless of how soon she's in with a male. They seem to be able to hold off delivering until they have reached a fairly grown-up age. And at 5-6 months they will definately be bigger than any normal male guppy.
Before all else fails....do a 25% water change ;)
