He's bored... (none / 0) (#1)
by New Guppy Momma on Tue Dec 26, 2006 at 08:51:52 PM PST

Or just acting like a male guppy who thinks he's personally responsible for keeping the species alive. They seem to like to pester females who are close to delivering.

Or, like most males, he gets a thrill out of the women chasing after him. Male guppies have only one thing on their minds. Like most males ;) (my husband included) Sorry guys ;)

Just keep watch and if the females get too agressive and might really hurt him put him in a bowl or tank of at least 1 gallon. Setting it right next to the females will have him wearing himself out with displaying for them. Personal experiance from having males and females in seperate 10 gallon tanks side by side. No more tho. Just a giant Guppy party.

Also agressive behavior can be triggered by less than perfect water conditions. An extra water change or two can't hurt. Good luck and keep watching.
Before all else fails....do a 25% water change ;)

What temperature is the aquarium at? (none / 0) (#2)

Higher temps accelerate aggression, though you also do not want to chill them.

NGM is certainly raising another important point with the water quality. When was you last partial water change? What % was it? :)

Female guppies have actually been known to castrate obnoxious male guppies. If temperatures are around 77-78 F/25-25.5C and you have been doing weekly 30-45% water changes with treated and seasoned water, a time out in another tank, bowl or the breeder net might be in order.

Thanks!
