I tried that, and it didn't seem to touch the stuff. I tried it with one of those nylon scrub pads. Thanks though ;)
Looking for something a little more agressive than that, without being toxic.

dampen the stain with water and sprinkle with "barkeepers friend" or "bon ami"... put a damp paper towel over it and leave it for about a half hour, then wipe.. these are mildly acid abrasives that should interact with most minerals to dissolve them. rinse thoroughly, which is easy to do. I have also heard of people using denture cleaner or toothpaste on such stains and deposits, but have never tried that myself.

Also look to see that the blemish on the aquarium (none / 0) (#4)

is really that of a mineral deposit. Sometimes, in older tanks, the glass can actually be etched (or more commonly scratched) by the water or cleaning. Obviously there is no more we can do for that blemish.
