while they are found in brackish water, perhaps washing down stream, Harro Hieronimus has also noted that they are found (upstream?) in water with relatively little mineral content. That is rare among the Poecilids. If you get them and they don't reproduce, increase the live foods they get and walk down the mineral content some by adding demineralized water from time to time.
