Now, don't panic, but I think maybe I got the skin form of TB? | 11 comments (7 topical, 4 editorial, 0 hidden)
Mycobacterium, like Ich and Velvet individuals, (none / 0) (#8)
by unclescott on Mon Oct 30, 2006 at 12:39:01 PM PST

are probably always in the vast majority of aquariums' water. In normal times, when the tank is healthy and well cared for, that mycobacterium is living a generally benign existance in the mulm. (Another reason to faithfully gravel vacuum!)

I get cut, I clear out of the aquarium and wash the cut with hydrogen peroxide. Squeeze the would to get it to bleed a little and wash out the wound.

The library guy here has been very gracious in that I have exceeded my hour. So I need to sign out. Google GL for doppy uncle scott and fish TB and how I dealt with it. Mere neosporin probably will not do much for you if you were infected. It is worth a try, but clean up if cut and stay out of the aquarium until such a cut heals. I too have reasons to especially not want that stuff in an aquarium, both for the sake of the fish and me.

I guess it is a calculated gamble what to put one's hands in. I'm hypoglycemic and probably will have diabetes some day. (Sigh.) Two good friends in Chicagoland have to deal with diabetes and still keep fish. Attended the wake of another. His diabetes-related death had nothing what-so-ever to do with his fish, but probably his lifestyle and diet. It is your call.

all the best!
