Wow DJ you sure have been paying attention.

Your observations about the females dropping over a period of time on occasion rather than all at once seems to explain what others have asked here and possibly what I have been seeing over the last couple of days. You've made me want to separate my fish out more so I can observe exactly who's doing what.

<quote>In small tests that I have done I have noticed that it approxamtly takes a 4 month gestation period before the first drop (but have had earlier on occasion.<endquote>
Did you mean here that the fish are about 4 months old when they drop their first batch of fry?

How can you say that you are not that smart when you've just written all this! Yeah there are spelling and grammar errors but that's not an indication of intelligence and you've just shown us what you are capable of. I'd have a go at fixing the spelling (but I'm not so good on grammar myself) except that too many things go flying off into outer cyberspace round here and I might lose it which would be a tragedy.

Thankyou for sharing all your info with us.

Cheers

When i said about 4 months. i ment only from the point of becoming pregnated... Which would be about the time when the gravid spot first appears I think... So i only start couting from there... With Gravid spot development though it depends on a few things... Like tank size, how many feedings ect...

Basicly how long it takes for it to gain maturatity from the point of birth.. (betweeen 2 weeks - 1 month) then from that point another 4 months before you could see your first drop. But that is under prime conditions...

I also wanted to add, that When pregnant once and a while you will see the gravid spot suddenly reapear, but once placeing her in a breeder box/net the gravid spot can disapear... I still have not quite figured out what it is.... Either A... some how it comes down to protect the female .. Or B... thats just what there poop looks like inside them.. (cause usually after a good dump it disapears again) This should not be mistaken for a Dropping... If you watch carefully you will see the baby fry's eyes developing in the egg. this will give it the look of a gravid spot. But develops over time... not in the last hour that you happened not to look at them.... :) :)
