Don't laugh about your hypothosis!!!

I swear that the tank I'm refering to does just fine when left completely ALONE!!! It's only when I mess with it that issues appear.

My husband has even been known to toss in 3-4 gallons of completely UNTREATED water (to quiet the noise from the filter outflow due to evaporation), with NO adverse effects! (Well, none other than a slightly higher water hardness level, and a stern lecture from moi.)

Even our beloved Miskairal recently decided that she over does the cleaning and vacuuming, and cut back on her diligent schedule.

Her fish seem to be fairing much better now, and her ego will follow soon, I am sure.

I stopped the Maracyn cure, and once the cloudiness started to dissipate, I think, <knock wood> that the gups are fairing a bit better.

I've noticed that the clown loaches have eaten any and all remaining snails in that tank, however, so I think my next "treatment" will be to add some from my fry tank upstairs.

Call me nuts, but that is the only variable in the equation that has changed over the past few months.

Well there is plenty of algae on all the PLASTIC
plants in there to support a nice sized snail colony.

I'm going to hold off on any further medication and see what happens.

I don't want to Whack my biological filter by adding meds, and lose my beloved Clown Loaches over two old crotchity male gups.

I mean seriously, don't you think you'd shake a bit if you were over one hundred? :-P

Keep me posted, and I'll do the same.

GG-
Another death last night...That makes about 10? in this batch.  *Sigh*  Anyhow, today is the last day of the Quikcure treatment.  Instead of going straight to the Maracyn, I'm going to do a water change.  Also, my tank has stablized a bit (minus the 40 or so fry), so I'm going to do a water change there and add a new filter first.  My QT tank is still not doing so hot, but at least none of my beauties wound up in there --so far *praying, praying*  Does that sound cold or what?  I'm terrible.

Hope we BOTH find a cure soon...

Sorry about your loss.

When you say your going to add a new filter, what do you mean?

I'm asking because your biological filter in the tank has probably already taken a hit from the meds.

Don't replace the filtering material, just rinse it really, really well.

Go ahead and change out the charcoal if you want to stay on top of water clarity, but wait at least 7 to 10 days before adding meds, or the carbon will just remove the meds right back out of your tank.  Especially with Maracyn, you'll just be wasting your money.

I'd try to do some partial, 20% water changes daily, and NOT vacuum the gravel for about 5 days and see where that gets you before starting another medication cycle.

My last two gups seem to be doing better now that I've actually stopped the Maracyn treatment and their water has cleared a bit.

One still seems to have some reddening by his gills, and they still don't seem to be moving quite right yet, but he pigged down his breakfast, so at least he's eating.

Think I'm gonna get some frozed brine shrimp today for the buggers.  Hey if I was 100 I'd want to eat like a king for my last suppers. :o)

By new filter I meant a new bag-- I took out the old one to start the QuikCure.  Today, I put in a new one with new charcoal and did a partial water change.  Waiting is definitely on the agenda...it's just so hard not to add meds when your gupps start croaking once a day.

NOTE-- Be careful not to overfeed with the brine shrimp, as that can start other illnesses in your tank.

I'm stingy with the brine shrimp, it's rather expensive for me.

I usually don't allow enough for any leftovers.
