Wow! 32 degrees hardness would give you (none / 0) (#5)

water with something like 544 PPM! That would be lethel to guppies after a while. (See that little Winter Mystery Death blurb.) That is a greater hardness than the Great Rift Lakes, though they have a high carbonate hardness which may bring the total TDS (sort of the same as electrical conductivity) to close to your well water.

That's a very good water softener if hardness is 1 !

Certainly you can keep fish, but you will have to fiddle with the water. And I realize that your first priorities are your family and farm.

I hope (as a history & social studies teacher, not a chemist) this is some help. Wish that all you had to do was turn on the faucet and fill the aquarium. ;)
