Re: Rosy Cheeks? (none / 2) (#9)

In scanning these posts, my first thought was that "Rosy" in your description might actually be the "normal" condition and maybe Unc was bouncing a little to high off the walls but when you mention red spots in the fins and elsewhere...oops..you got big problems!! And I'll leave it to Dr.Unc to diagnose that for you.
One thing has been missed in this thread about quarantine tanks...ok, a couple three things...
whatever you use, and I use 3 or 4 gallon buckets,
draw off a substantial amount of the water for it from an established tank. There is a lot of bio in the water column so that very much decreases the cycling issue....and load that bucket with java moss or hornwort or some other floating plants.

99% of the folks in the aquarium hobby can't seem to fathom this fact.
PLANT ABSORB AMMONIA DIRECTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Therefore nitrites and nitrates are not much of an issue and therefore the chemoautrophic bacteria (yeah, the bugs that you need to culture to begin the cycling process) are not in much demand to keep the garbage at bay.

Hey Dr. Nate! In your experienced oppinion what (none / 1) (#12)

would the red spots on the fins, et al, indicate? Really glad you dropped by Guppylog. :)

All the best!
