Oh little GuppyLuver, you tank is VERY small. (I say little b/c there is also the new GuppyLover92 and your number is smaller :)

Why not just get 2 males. That size tank leaves no room for fry as well and the males are pretty and won't fight.

I'm not sure on how to cycle a tank that small without already having access to some gravel or filter medium from another healthy tank. I would guess you would just have to add the fish and make sure you do frequent water changes. Water changes I think should be about 20-25% twice a week and water should be seasoned ie. have the chlorine reomoved.

Leaving a tank empty, before adding fish, does nothing unless you add ammonia to it to start the "good" bacteria cycle.

I would suggest that you try to hold off until someone more cluey than me comes along and can answer your questions. I'm not sure about your heater either. Turn it on and test it out to see what temperature you can keep the water at.

Good Luck

Oh, don't worry about how many guppies will be in that tank!
I'm hopefully going to get another tank which will be 5 or 10 gallons.  The first guppies are going to go into the 1.5 gallon tank, when the females are pregnant, I shall move the males into the 5 or 10 gallon tank.  After the females have all her fry, I will move the mothers into the 10 or 5 gallon tank that has a divider.  All the males will go into one half and the females will go into the other half.
Okay?
Thanks! :)

Yes in fact I do. I am planing to get young females so that they will have less fry.  Also I have many people that want to buy the guppies from me. Not to mention 3 of my friends that want at least 2 for their fish tank!
Don't worry, I know what I'm doing... Hopefully. lol
Thanks!

So you have room for over 300 guppies and/or enough friends to take them then? What will you do when the young guppies have had their fist drop and on their second start presenting you with up to 30 babies.

Do you know that once impregnated, those young females will keep producing fry every month for up to 6 months regardless of whether a male is still present?

Take care!

Yes, I am well aware of a female that can save a sperm for a loooong time. lol!
But after the females will have their fry, I will cull them if I have the heart to. :( Also After the fry are born, the females will go into a separate tank so that the males and females aren't together.
If the females do actually store a sperm, ah well!
;)
More fishies get sold to others or to my LFS!
Thanks for your concern!

My concern is b/c I ended up with over 300 guppies :)
the overcrowding caused disease and I wasn't game to give them to anyone for fear of spreading the diseases. I also didn't have the heart to cull - just couldn't do it, they're so cute when tiny and to watch their fight for survival.....

Anyway, you are lucky to have a petshop that will take your oversupply.

Oh, and mine kept having babies every month for 4 months after I separated the males and females. Also unc;e tells us that the female is most receptive to a male for up to 48 hours after giving birth so spearate the sexes BEFORE birthing ;)

Cheers

Oh ok, I see you had 300 guppies!!!!
WOW!
That's a LOT!! I know how cute they are and hopefully, if I really do end up with 300 guppies at a time, either giving them away, or culling would be best answer! :( And I suppose if I am going to name them all, I would get too attatched. I should only name the ones that I will DEFINATELY keep!
Thanks!!
