Re: New Poll (none / 1) (#6)

I agree Misk! I think that all questions are important! Even if they are asked a few times, I mean isn't that what this site is for?  I knew when I first came to this site I was just overwhelmed with questions and worried about my poor guppies! It sometimes seems like common knowlege questions that some people ask but everyone has to start from somewhere. You have to do that to learn. I just wanted help fast and I figured this would be the place to get it. I didn't even know of or read the FAQ/immediate help. I think this is a great site and I have fun pondering some of the questions asked on here.

The part of your post that concerns me the most is this part:
"I didn't even know of or read the FAQ/immediate help."

How do I make that anymore visable than it already is? The letters are huge, on the front page, and even blink. People who go to post a new 'story' or log as we call it here, are asked to read them before posting.

The bottom line is, most people don't read anything before they start using the site. This is akin to opening up a complex toy, or piece of equipment, throwing out the directions, and then calling for support when it either breaks, or doesn't work right. Call me stupid, but I'm thinking there's something backwards about that...

I did notice the words are larger, but for some reason on my computer they have never blinked. I'm using Windows XP, could that be why?

well actually I take that part that I didn't read the FAQ first because I did. It bored me to read stuff about scoop... So I just figured the whole thing was about the software used for this site. I have never see the Immediate help "read before posting" until today so you must have just put that up. I would have definatly read it if I would have seen that.

Read a car's manual. They're boring, too. They're also important if you want to know how your car works...

Yes, as per the update (see above) I did just add that.

But not all of us want to know how our cars work, we just want to use it. Some of us tinker with computers and want to know how the hardware and software works, others just want to get in and use it. When I first found GL I read the FAQs but didn't understand most of it.

I think pointing the FAQs link to the shorter one might help.

No, but in most civilized countries, to drive a car you have to know the bare minimums anyway. You're even tested on it.

I'm not refering to 'how a car works' as in the wonders of the modern internal combustion engine, I'm refering to 'gas menas go, break means stop, wheel makes car turn' type stuff.
