My guppy is pregnant but.... | 9 comments (9 topical, 0 editorial, 0 hidden)
Wow! Oh wow! Oh no! (none / 1) (#1)

Did you move her, suddenly, while she was very pregnant? Those sound an awful lot like guppy eggs. A fish abruptly moved may drop undeveloped eggs and seriously premature fry. :(

I did that once with a female molly and she lived, but never dropped fry again. I really hope that doesn't happen to your guppy! I'm also so sorry for you, because you have got to feel awful about what happened.

The difference between veteran aquarists and newbies is that the newbie didn't know not to do what lead to the disaster.

yes, i did move her.  it looked like she had dropped to the last stage.  she was already pushing these things(the green stuff).  so i waited till she finished then put her in the clear square breeder thingy.  She freaked.

When i got up this morning she about 9 of the green things and 1 dead fry.  Did i cause this or was it something else?

Another question is that this guppy has been pregnant before, but never been a successful mother. Any idea why?

If those square breeder thingies are plastic, (none / 0) (#4)

one of the Guppylog wits also christened them the "little boxes o' death."

It is much better (not easier) to move everyone else in the tank than the pregnant guppy. There is a lot of discussion on related topics in the Immediate Help section (see the upper right hand corner of this page). Especially, as time permits in this extra busy time of the year, look at the sections on:
Breeding
Pregnancy and Birth
Fry Diet and Safety

All the best!
