I don't really know a whole lot about obesity in guppies or fish in general, but if we relate what we know about obesity in humans, there are several conclusions which can be reached. First, obese guppies would die faster. Second, they may exhibit strange behaviors that might make people not want them. Third, I assume that most show-people know what they are doing, so nobody would buy them for show, no matter how pretty they are. And as for calling them balloon guppies, my reaction is, "Um...":)
