Pregnant female is distressed labor - Please Help | 12 comments (12 topical, editorial, 0 hidden)
Re: Home now but no change! (none / 0) (#10)
by guppygirl on Sat Nov 19, 2005 at 03:53:00 AM PST

Hi jeeplassie,

The last time I had a female that wound up in this much trouble birthing, even the outcome was distressing.

The mother died shortly after giving birth to about twelve babies.  6 of them were extremely dark colored, and didn't last more than a week. Of the remaining 6, three had horribly bent spines, and I had to cull them anyway.  Of the last three one still has a slightly bent spine and two, one male, one female, were alright.

Now, I hate to cull baby fish, and so my dilema was extended, so to speak, into the next generation.

Now, I don't take "playing God" lightly at all, and can really empathize with your situation.  Yet, all I can say is, that if I was ever in this same spot again, I'd wish I had an hungry Oscar around.

Hope things work out for you.
Take care,

gg
:o)

update on Brenna (none / 0) (#11)
by jeeplassie on Mon Nov 21, 2005 at 07:02:45 AM PST

Ok, well to give everyone the update...before I left on friday, Brenna was not doing better at all, and had been in serious distress for over 36 hours. Because I was going to be gone all weekend I went ahead and put her out of her misery by giving her to Seamus. Seamus ate her the moment she hit the water, and took her pain away within a second. I was afraid of coming home to find that she had died naturally, but the end full of nothing but pain. Thats why I went ahead and did it. obviously I got no fry from her beforehand. I feel bad, but I know she isnt hurting anymore.

I want to thank you all so much for helping!! I really appreciate it to no end.

I wish I could be that brave. I think you made the right decision - you did it thinking of her only so it must've been the right decision.
