Welcome to Guppylog Andrea! (none / 0) (#2)

If your female is older than, say a month and a half, and has been in the company of males, she is pregnant. If you don't like the males she was with, don't despair. If you are worried about the possibility of her having not mated with an appropriate or "good" male, she will not have a lot of fry the first time she drops. If there is a male you really want to mate her with, leave her with that male ONLY and he will inseminate her in the two days after birth. More of the fry will be his next time around. The third batch, if he is her only consort throughout that period, then almost all fry should be his.

You may not want the earlier fry. Feed her and any tank mates well, (See the references on fry and feeding in the Quick Links) even if you don't want those offspring. Guppies, usually, can be conditioned to leave their fry alone. If they are starving when fry are dropped, they will naturally eat new-borns. Then we are conditioning them to be cannibals.

You picked the best spot, on the site, to ask your  question on GuppyLog. Thank you for picking through the FAQs first. That is seldom easy, for new members, on any web site.

In the short run, if you have more questions about your female guppy's future, go to the Quick Links right next to the FAQs and check out the section on pregnancy. Perhaps the sections on fry and foods would be especially relevant to you too.

Before using the Guppylog search box at the bottom of the page (the only part of Scoop Site software I find very disappointing) go back to the Quick Links, click on "Info on Posting a log/Asking a question" and then "Searching hints at Guppylog". Members of GL are quite gracious at answering questions and I continue to be impressed by the insights which answers and questions can give (most recently the one by gupepersonality). Answering some of the same introductory questions can get a little tedious, even for those with the gift of patience. When you (and more especially guest lurking and reading this) have done a little searching around, you will be pleased by how much you have learned and how they have spawned even more questions. :)

Feel free to fire those questions at the forum, as you continue to grow in the Guppy Keeper's craft.

I was away today and am surprised someone else had not responded to your questions. Guess a lot of GL members are busy doing holiday related things.

All the best!
uncle Scott
