From the play Nunsense:

Smoothly interrupting the flow of the play, a "nun" standing way off to the side of the auditorium sweetly calls out, "Why did Moses and the Isrealites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years?"

The nuns on stage stop what they are doing and melodiously respond, "Why DID Moses and the Isrealites wander in the wilderness for 40 years?"

The first party coyly responds, "Being a man, ....
..................................................
..................................................
he couldn't stop and ask directions."

Partly because of the unexpected, but fine timing, half the audience erupts in wonderful laughter, verging on chortling. The men folk just act a little confused and start off in the distance.
