HTML image tag 101 (none / 0) (#8)
by laurly on Thu Dec 04, 2003 at 08:43:32 AM PST

HTML image tag 101

The HTML image tag is basically <img src=location_of_fishy_picture></img>

1. take a picture of fishy.
if you use a digital camera you are all set, if you don't have one you can scan a normal picture into your computer using a scanner or most local photo stores now a days will scan them for you when they are developed and save them on a disk,cd, or even upload it on the internet for you.

2. upload the picture onto the internet. Most internet service providers offer you some web space where you can upload your pictures. There are also some free services around the internet that will do the same.

3. You will need to then find out what the URL (internet address) to your picture is.
example. lets use one of Guppyadicts pictures.
Guppyadict uploaded a fishy picture to
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid91/p984637a8e8fab456 2cb5553802e1aa25/fa64dd00.jpg
If you click on the link you can see the picture.

4. now all we have to do is replace location_of_fishy_picture with the location of our picture example.
<img src=http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid91/p984637a8e8fab4562cb5553802e1aa25/fa64dd00.jpg> </img>

Note: When it comes to size of a picture, bigger is not always better. A lot of digital camera's take very large pictures by default. If you upload a huge picture consider this.
First its going to take a long time for some people to download it, not everyone has a 35 mb internet connection at work to serf on like me :).
Second when you are posting a picture into a forum it wont get resized so your going to make the hole page look bad by putting in a large picture. There are several programs that will allow you to resize a picture very easily.

Now we have guppyadict's pritty fishy picture.

I hope you have enjoyed todays HTML image tag class. Rember to only post nice pictures.

Laurly

OK, you lost me in the first sentence... (none / 0) (#26)
by guppygirl on Wed Dec 10, 2003 at 10:45:16 AM PST

Like I've said, I am a "computer idiot", but for this lesson, let me adjust that to "complete computer moron".

You said that "if you use a digital camera, you are all set."
Well, I do, but all set, how, what, and where?
What do I do after I get a good picture downloaded to my computer?

I would appreciate the help, I know, you didn't post here to be a computer guru.

Thanks,

gg

GG, do you have some (none / 0) (#27)
by GuppyAdict on Wed Dec 10, 2003 at 04:48:22 PM PST

sort of software to edit photo's, like Paint Shop Pro or MS Photo Editor?

If so, download the photo's from the camera, then open them back up in Paint Shop, file save as a Jpeg file.

From there, I would work on resizing the photo to an appropriate size. Then,I would upload the photo to www.webshots.com or www.imagestation.com (free hosting site to post pictures).  Once you upload the photo, you would right click on your picture, goto properties and locate your URL address.  From there, follow laurly instructions.  And your done.  If you need help, email me.  Can't wait to see your pictures.

A minor nit (none / 0) (#9)
by Scott Lockwood on Thu Dec 04, 2003 at 03:29:12 PM PST

The HTML image tag is basically <img src=location_of_fishy_picture></img>

Actually, the img tag doesn't require a </img> to close, and the location_of_fishy_picture should be src="location_of_fishy_picture"

simplicity is the key (none / 0) (#20)
by laurly on Fri Dec 05, 2003 at 10:34:47 AM PST

1. I know that the Html image tag does not require </img> .  But for some reason this forum does and I didn't want to confuse people.
2. I believe from checking the source in the forum that " are added by default you don't have to put it in.  I also didn't state this so as not to confuse people.

When people are trying to learn to do something new, sometimes less information is a good thing.

I've been to the local aquarium and taken some lovely pictures of the glass (DUHHH!  darn flash)  I figured a way around it after rolls.  Partially cover the flash and it gets better.  Digital camera here I come! Ahhh, technology ain't it grand?

Tell me about it. (none / 0) (#14)
by GuppyAdict on Thu Dec 04, 2003 at 06:59:19 PM PST

I took over 50 pictures of my guppies and I only got maybe 10 good ones.

I found that it is easier if you feed them and then start snapping away.

The beauty of digital cameras: not wasted film. (none / 0) (#16)

The huge draw back of many digital cameras: slow shutter speed and a photo collection of fish tails. And that is no fish tale.

I don't know what we would do without our digital camera.  We got our money's worth the first week we bought it, due to the birth of my son.

Can you imagine how much money and time we are saving with these cool cameras?
