Maggie, I'm so sorry. :-( (none / 0) (#1)

You did the right thing.

I have two females that are over two years old now, and I know they probably don't have too much time left.

They don't get around much, but when you put food in the tank, they are still as active as ever.

Still, I know their day will come.

I know I shouldn't be so upset (none / 0) (#2)

but I am such an animal lover. I get too attached.  I had a baby balloon molly past last night too.  It looked like he had dropsy.  It's so frustrating when you do all the proper maintenance and cleaning and problems still break out.  My poor male guppy has survived 4 wives since June/July.  I think I'm going to keep the tank as is for a couple months to make sure no one else is sick.  Then maybe I'll try again.  It's so hard though.  But thanks for the support.

it can get very frustrating at times. One wonders why we put ourselves through it.

Then there is a day when you look at the tank,
and you see this tiny baby that has survived the
odds.

You also find that he's very, very, good at avoiding capture, as you try to get him into the
breeder net where he will be safe.

And the circle of life begins again.

Just wanted to share something that happened yesterday to me, after I too, had a loss of a new swordtail.

Yes, I know what you mean. (none / 0) (#4)

I have a baby tank with about 35 molly and guppy fry.  They guppies are about 3 weeks old and are starting to get some color.  I can't wait to see how they turn out.  Since buying from LFS can be so risky, I think I will wait and see if I have any females in this batch.  Even though their mommy died within a few days of getting her, I have not lost any of the fry (so far at least).
