your insights Phry. Lagler, et. al. must feel then thay guppies have x & y chromosomes.

I was surprised by a comment an ichthyologist made several years ago that a lot of aquarium fish had their sex determining genetic material located on several chromosomes. It had never been demonstrated that many of them had x or y chromosomes. This made them vulnerable to environmental changes which could produce proportionately more males or females.

Another study on platies suggested a third chromosome in the gender mix. I forget whether John Dawes alluded to it or if it was in Snellson/Meffe.
