I can vouch from personal experience on the moving the female too soon.  One of mine did the same thing.  If I absolutely feel that I need to move them I wait until I am sure she is going to drop. (Within the next few hours or so.) I hate visiting the school of hard knocks. Sorry that happened to you, too.
